Contact Lenses for Astigmatism

Astigmatism means your cornea is shaped more like a rugby ball than a football, so light focuses unevenly on the retina. Toric contact lenses correct this with two powers and a stabilising design — and LensFinder scans every Swedish vendor in seconds to find your lowest price.

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is one of the most common vision conditions — roughly 1 in 3 people have some degree of it. Instead of a perfectly round cornea, an astigmatic eye is shaped slightly oval, which blurs vision at all distances. It is usually corrected with toric contact lenses, which include a cylinder (CYL) and axis value alongside the standard sphere power.

How toric lenses work

Unlike spherical lenses, toric lenses have different powers in different meridians and must stay oriented correctly on the eye. Manufacturers use ballasting, thin zones, or accelerated stabilisation to keep them in place when you blink.

Why compare prices?

Toric lenses cost 20–40% more than spherical lenses, and Swedish vendor prices vary by hundreds of kronor per box. LensFinder checks Lensway, Alensa, Lenson, Synoptik and more in one search.

Frequently asked

What does CYL and AXIS mean on my prescription?

CYL (cylinder) is the extra correction needed for astigmatism, measured in dioptres. AXIS (0–180°) tells the lens which direction to apply that correction.

Can I wear normal lenses if I have astigmatism?

Mild astigmatism (under 0.75 CYL) can sometimes be corrected with spherical lenses, but most people see noticeably sharper with toric lenses prescribed by an optician.

Are toric lenses more expensive?

Yes, typically 20–40% more than spherical lenses because of the more complex manufacturing. Prices vary significantly between Swedish vendors — that is exactly what LensFinder compares.

How long does it take to adapt to toric lenses?

Most people adapt within a few days. If vision feels rotated or unstable after a week, ask your optician — the axis or fit may need adjusting.
